DIY Guide: How to Make Deodorant at Home

Body odor can be a very embarrassing for all of us and many of us even shy away from discussing such topics. Many of use deodorants and roll ons to subside the body odor, for few it works but for some, the effects maybe really harmful. This is one of the main concerns that many of us face, harmful effects caused due to the use of deodorants because of the chemicals present in it. These deodorants contain many harmful chemicals which may cause rash and irritation to the body.

But this doesn’t mean that we would stop using deodorants. We will share with you a very easy way of making deodorants at home. The method is very simple and we will use all natural products. They help to control the bad body odor and leave you smelling nice and refreshing all day long.

What are the ingredients you need?

Using a all natural deodorant is a great alternative to the deodorants that make use of harmful chemicals like aluminium, parabens, toxins, chemicals that cause a lot of harm to the body.

So to start of with this deodorants recipe you would need few ingredients to make sure that your body doesn’t stink during the summer or whenever you sweat. This deodorant is all natural and is equally effective as the deodorants that are available on the market.

You will need the following:

  • 1/3 Cup of Unrefined Shea butter
  • A cup of Arrowroot powder
  • 2-3 tablespoon Baking soda
  • 60 drops of any Essential oil, you can combine two essential oils as well
  • Glass jar or empty deodorant stick

How to make the deodorant?

So to start with the first thing that you would need to do is melt the Shea butter using the double boiler method. In this method you need a bowl with hot water and place another bowl in the and put some Shea butter to melt it. Once the product is completely melted remove the bowl and let it cool for some time.

Add 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda and half a cup arrowroot powder and mix until everything is combined. If you find the baking soda to be really irritating or harsh on your skin then you can skip it and use some more arrowroot powder instead. At last use the essential oils of your choice and the fragrance that soothes you the most.

Use an essential oil that you find refreshing and would blend really well with your body as well. Now the final step would be to store the mixture either in a jar or an old and empty deodorant stick. But if you don’t have an old deodorant stick then you can simply buy these online as well.

Store the mixture in the fridge so that it can become firm and that’s it. Once the mixture has become solid you can store it in room temperature as well. Apply once in the morning and it’s good to last for all day long.

If you don’t want Shea butter you could even use coconut oil instead and if you find it difficult to get your hands on arrowroot powder you may use cornstarch. And that’s it, your deodorant is ready. This product is very safe on the body and easy to make.
